Cyanotype
I love the particular blue hue of a cyanotype print. The process itself is almost 200 years old and for many years was used as a way to mass reproduce technical drawings (hence the term ‘blueprint’). Today, I combine it with off-cuts of old maps, usually picked up in charity shops, and I primarily use areas of sea and open water as my canvas. I feel that the blue of the map and the blue of the cyanotype process particularly compliment each other.
What you see below is just a small selection of the full collection of cyanotype prints I have so far produced. Some are exposed using sunlight while others – particularly those made in winter – are produced using a UV lamp.
