This woodcut is made using five birch panels, four of which have been cut using an Xtool M1 to reveal the surfaces on the layer below. The colours chosen for painting them – a range of yellows and blues – are reminiscent of the seaside, and the smooth curves and joins are reminiscent of the pools that get left behind on the beach when the tide goes out.

Where some of my other landscapes are bolted together, this one has been framed. The frame is unpainted to accentuate the sandy tones of the woodcut. The piece can be hung in either portrait or landscape orientation.
