This plotted picture of Carlo is drawn using three unbroken lines, each of which loops through 52,000 individual spirals. The spirals were hand drawn, with tighter, more dense spirals used in areas where the image is darker, and looser spirals where it is light.
The image is drawn using Bic Biros, with a green pen used for the underlying tone, and a black Biro used for a more contrast-heavy layer that sits on top. Each spiral is hand drawn on an iPad and positioned on the page using LibreOffice Calc.
I particularly like the framing of this picture. The original image was full height, but I cropped it to focus on just the arms and shoulders, then tilted it to run the right arm parallel to the bottom of the frame.
Medium: Bic Biro on paper
Size: A1
Equipment used: iDraw pen plotter, self-written Linux scripts to slice original image; LibreOffice Calc spreadsheet to arrange data; Inkscape to plot image; Affinity Designer on iPad to draw spirals
