
This woodcut consists of eight birch panels, each of which is 3mm thick. I drew a series of wave-like vectors and used them as my template to cut the panels on an Xtool M1 laser cutting machine. I then painted them using household emulsion. Each layer had two or three coats, depending on the intensity of the paint, followed by two layers of varnish. Finally, each layer was bolted into position using 8mm bolts and nuts. You can see the full stack in the image below.

Although the two bolts at the bottom pass through just one layer, so don’t actually hold any of the pieces together, they are functional, as the bolt heads keep the top and bottom of the image the same distance from the wall when it is hung.
