
Lucas posed remotely for this picture, which is drawn on A1 paper using two unbroken lines, which each pass through around 10,000 spirals to recreate the tones in the original image. They were drawn using a blue fine Bic Biro for the under layer, and a black fat (1.6mm nib) Bic Biro on top for contrast. The entire picture took around 48 hours to plot.

The image above shows some of the spirals in greater detail. It’s possible to make out a woven effect in the ink where it has been laid down by the ball in the pen.
